Newsletter #5!

Friday, 24 June 2016

If you missed my huge drop last month where I crammed all the photos I made from January to early May 2016, check out newsletter #4 here. Here’s a list of my past newsletters.

This month’s dispatch features three great walls of graffiti. There’s a short 2 minute video of how I shot the two walls in parking lots in Quezon Avenue.

I also made a 4 minute video of a street watch battery replacement stall, for those of you who have never had watch batteries replaced in the street, or seen the process.

These are all videos or photos I made in the past month since newsletter #4.

Hope you enjoy this month’s dispatch. Please forward this to friends of yours who may be interested, and ask them to subscribe too!

Oh, and I’ve joined the madness that is Snapchat. My username is heygem. Please add me to your Snapchat buddy list.

I shot the short 4 minute video above when I got my watch batteries replaced.

Below, you see two kids with an ingenious basketball hoop made of coiled springs.
Election Campaign Signs:
Say what you want about leftists, they came up with the most creative graphic designs for their posters during the recently concluded election campaign.

The photo above is a panoramic view of the whole lot.

Below are some highlights.

Barangka Drive Basketball Court:

I already photographed this basketball court in 2015, but when I passed by late last month, I saw that some pieces had changed. I took my camera and went back there to shoot it, as my first photo was shot at night and it looks different during the day.
Please click to see detailed photos of individual pieces.
Scroll down to the “throwback” section below to see the photo I shot exactly eight months ago to the day I shot this 2016 daytime one.

This is a 3 minute 51 second animated video about Eadweard Muybridge, one of the pioneers of photography and filmmaking.

Throwback:

I shot the graffiti in this basketball court exactly eight months before I shot the daytime version above (scroll up to the graffiti section).
I photographed this 9/25/2015 and the daytime version on 5/25/2016.

Stamp of the Day:

This dispatch’s featured stamp is the 150th anniversary stamp of the Manila Observatory, with an inset portrait of Fr. Federico Faura, SJ. It was founded in 1865 by the Jesuits.
