Info

I started collecting Matchbox cars around 1992. The cars filed under the "first batch" group were the very first cars in my collection. You can see that a lot of the paint has already chipped, and some plastic parts that used to be white are now yellowed.

I stopped collecting Matchbox cars when they started getting cheesy and cheap looking. I switched to Hot Wheels then. I still collected some "modern-day" Matchbox cars from time to time though. Not all the new ones are crap.

I remember that Matchbox cars came in blue boxes with transparent windows when I started collecting. There were all sorts of cool designs. Nowadays (as of 2006) Matchbox cars come in blister packs like Hot Wheels (which I don't mind except there's no real difference anymore). Matchbox cars are now really crappy too.

Whereas Hot Wheels still continues to innovate (haven't bought a new HW car the whole of 2005 though since everything looks too "blinged-out"), Matchbox just churns out the same old tired plastic models. How many f---ing reiterations of the same fire engine, the same cop car, the same snowmobile, and the same ambulance do I have to see before Matchbox goes back to the freshness of its old designs?
