hello
February 2006
Hey everyone, I'm Gem. I used to collect a lot of Hot Wheels and Matchbox die-cast cars until 2005. Anyway I spent countless hours taking photos of my collection to put up here. Hope you guys enjoy it.
I started my collection with Matchbox cars in 1992. They used to be really cool then. They started getting crappy really soon. The design got stale and looked like something even eight year olds wouldn't want to play with. I got into Hot Wheels after that.
Hot Wheels cars have special wheels. That's why they're called Hot Wheels. They're smoother to "race" and slide around. It must be in the axles. And the wheels themselves. Hot Wheels cars also have special sets of wheels. Those wheels you see on HW cars aren't just random designs. There are whitewall wheels, 3-spoke, 5-spoke, black walls, redlines, gold wheels, chrome wheels, some even have real rubber tires!
Don't forget to check out my "other cars" page too. I put up photos of my Majorette and Bburago car collections there. I don't have a lot of these cars but since these brands aren't as popular as HW and Matchbox, who knows, you guys might find stuff you haven't seen before. I also put up my Micro Machines (tiny, tiny, model cars) collection there too. Micro Machines are really cute.
I wasn't a Micro Machines fanatic collector at the start. I only had one Micro Machines "set" before I started bulk buying them. It was a James Bond (007) commemorative thing. So there was a little James Bond figurine, and two cars from You Only Live Twice. I can't find that set anymore though.
I started collecting Micro Machines when I was at the mall one day (I was actually a college freshman or sophomore already at that time) and I spotted this super neat Micro Machines container/ display case that had shelves and a transparent window in front. I bought it intending to put some of my Hot Wheels cars in it. The HW cars were too big though. But I couldn't go on living with the thought of having an empty Micro Machines display case. It was really forlorn and empty. It also had this cool handle for carrying around (not that this sentence has any bearing on the previous one).
I started buying Micro Machines cars after that to fill up the display case. When it was all filled up, I stopped buying. I think that was also around the time that local malls stopped selling Micro Machines. Maybe the Micro Machines distributor here decided to move on to more lucrative businesses like distributing crack and smack.
